Botox, Jeuveau, and Dysport are categorized as neurotoxins, also called neuromodulators. With botulinum toxins A or B as the active ingredient, these facial injectables temporarily paralyze specific facial muscles responsible for lines and wrinkles on the forehead, near the outer eyes, between the brows, and around the nose and mouth.

All three injectables are effective in smoothing wrinkles but vary slightly from one another. For example, Botox is more concentrated than Dysport, so results may take a bit longer to appear, and results tend to last a bit longer. However, because Dysport is less concentrated, it can spread easier and wider for larger treatment areas. Botox has been FDA-approved for longer than Dysport and Jeuveau and is approved for both medical uses and cosmetic uses.

Jeuveau (AKA Newtox) is the newest type of injectable, which was FDA-approved in 2019. It contains the same active ingredient as Botox but may be slightly less expensive.
